Kameo elements of power 2 manual#
Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. My opinion is that Rare's comeback may just be forthcoming and that Kameo: Elements of Power might just be the game to make it happen. My interest in this game is certainly piqued. Kameo: Elements of Power is a long-delayed title from a legendary developer now looking to regain its former glory. Let's not fool ourselves we're not talking about just another adventure game. Based on this look, I'd say that Rare and Microsoft has really turned this game around. It's easy to dismiss this game, aimed at a slightly younger than usual Xbox audience, as a graphical lightweight, but like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the game seems to be taking subtle opportunities to take advantage of it's console's capabilities. Tilting burning oil cans over results in lovely washes of flame. Trolls violently "ash" out when killed, much like the vampires in Blade II.
The air in "Burning Tower Melee" is choked with thousands of charred, floating particles that shift realistically with camera-driven perspective changes. And the game does contain some nice graphical touches. Some may feel left cold by Kameo: Elements of Power's look, but I'd argue that its bright, exaggerated feel is not all that different from Blizzard's Warcraft series. Troll mangling animations in particular are both brutal and funny. I can say this, though colorful and sometimes cute, Kameo: Elements of Power has its share of sadistic, "grown-up" moments. From this, mostly action-oriented, glimpse of the game it's hard to tell how many of these elements are present.
Humor, strong story and enduring character design are nearly synonymous with Rare. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, comes the issue of the Rare stamp. Plenty of potential puzzle and exploration depth here too. It's not uncommon for the game to demand a mid-air transformation to another character in order to overcome an obstacle. Snow covered walls can only be climbed with the aid of Chilla's ice picks. The spiky ball rolls through pipes, tricks off of quarter pipes and launches from ramps. Rolling around as Major Ruin, plays much like Metroid Prime. Certain parts of the landscape can only be traversed when Kameo has taken a specific forms. I've spent quite a bit of time on the subject of combat, but Kameo: Elements of Power is still an action adventure game and I'd be remiss not to mention at least briefly exploration. And, against common wisdom, fighting fire with fire can actually heal your enemy. Pitting the right beast against the right foe results in a damage bonus. The same goes for enemy trolls and bosses. Each of Kameo's forms is aligned with an element. The five elements are Snow, Plant, Water, Rock and Fire. As if all this weren't enough, elemental energy plays a big role in damage and point gain.
Taking a troll out without a scratch will result in a Flawless bonus and smashing trolls into sharpened stakes or knocking them over ledges garners a Brutal point windfall. Frenzy is awarded for dispatching multiple Trolls at once. And I haven't even mentioned the games three special kill bonuses. But as combos and attack chains begin to reveal themselves to you, it's very easy to become addicted to discovering and exploiting new and fun ways to flamboyantly bust heads. All this detail may seem pointless considering the fact that health amount of button mashing pretty readily sends enemy trolls to their graves. With a bit of skill and planning it's not hard to can fight your way to Warrior Focus and unleash a flurry of attacks on a single troll with blows from all four of Kameo's forms. Big numbers are earned by stacking damage upon damage to the point of overkill - and the key to racking up these numbers is taking advantage of Kameo's fast and easy ability to transform. It's during these moments when the skilled gamer can pull off complex, point-heavy combos. Only through landing a constant barrage of blows can the meter be filled to the point where Warrior Focus kicks in. The Warrior Focus meter in the center top of the screen displays gains ever time damage is dealt.
